New Kindle Fire debuts

The new Kindle Fire has just been launched by Amazon and is likely to be the first serious competitor to the iPad. This is not due to its specification, but because of its price. It is based on a version of Google Android made for Amazon,but doesn’t look like the Android system we have come to know and love. At just $199/£130 it really is quite a bargain compared to the competition.

It is designed to consume things – books (Kindle e-books, from Amazon of course), magazines, music (streamed via Amazon Cloud player), games , videos (streamed via Amazon Instant Video) etc. In what is rather a neat move, you don’t have to synchronise (or sync) your new Kindle Fire with your PC, you store everything on Amazon Cloud Storage. At the moment, the precise technical specification of the new Kindle Fire has yet to be released, so bookmark this page and we will update info as it becomes available.

The new Kindle Fire has a 7 inch colour touch screen, WiFi only, no 3G telecoms capability, no camera, no microphone, etc, etc. Simultaneously Amazon has launched a touch screen Kindle for just $99 and reduced the current non-touch screen version to $79. The price wars have begun!

Evolution X-Men and the X-Men TV shows

Evolution X-Men is an animated television series based on the Marvel Comics superheroes – the X-Men. There were a number of series and the characters were based on teenagers rather than adults.
The concept behind the change of characters was to introduce new costumes which allowed the designers to move away from the traditional X-Men images. It was hoped this would appeal to a larger and often younger audience. Several characters had distinct and recogniseable musical cues and some had special sound effects.

Whereas the original series of X-Men reflected the then current role of X-Men as freedom fighters battling persecution and bigotry against mutantkind, Evolution X-Men used the theme of mutant powers as a metaphor for the struggles and difficulties of adolescence.

The shows were a great hit and gave birth to a new TV series Wolverine and the X-Men which was first shown in 2008.
